Yerevan, Armenia, November 4–8, 2024 – As part of the EU-funded Support to Quality Infrastructure in Armenia project, UNIDO organized a five-day training in Yerevan focused on the Zener Standard. This essential tool for precision voltage calibration is widely used in metrology labs to provide a stable, known voltage, enabling accurate calibration of digital multimeters (DMMs).
The training was attended by five technical experts from Armenia's National Body for Standards and Metrology (NBSM) and is part of a comprehensive roadmap to enhance NBSM's capacity to deliver high-quality, internationally recognized calibration services aligned with global standards and guidelines.
Participants gained an overview of the Zener Standard's specifications and practical laboratory applications. The workshop featured hands-on sessions, including artifact calibration of digital multimeters using the Zener Standard, detailed uncertainty calculations for this calibration type, and artifact calibration of multifunction calibrators.
In close collaboration with the international expert, NBSM staff also developed a calibration procedure specifically for the artifact calibration of digital multimeters and multifunction calibrators, which will be finalized by NBSM.
The “Support to Quality Infrastructure in Armenia” project is funded by the EU and implemented by UNIDO, aims to strengthen NBSM’s capacity to provide sustainable, internationally recognized metrology services. By reinforcing Armenia’s legal, institutional, and technical metrology frameworks, the project supports the country’s broader objectives of economic diversification and trade competitiveness, in line with its commitments under the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with the EU.
