UNIDO on-site mission focuses on enhancement of Armenia’s metrology system
07 December 2023
The mission, organized by UNIDO, is part of the EU/UNIDO "Support to Quality Infrastructure in Armenia" project.
From December 4 to 7, Armenia hosted an on-site mission led by international expert to facilitate discussions and conduct knowledge-sharing workshops on the organizational structure of the National Body for Standards and Metrology (NBSM) as well as the best international practices regarding a Metrology Board.
The mission, organized by UNIDO, is part of the EU/UNIDO "Support to Quality Infrastructure in Armenia" project aimed at enhancing the capacity of the NBSM to provide sustainable and internationally recognized metrology services.
During the mission, key stakeholders, including representatives from NSBM, Market Surveillance Inspection Body, Ministry of Economy (MoE), National Accreditation Body (ARMNAB), National Polytechnical University, The Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia, and the RA Chamber of Commerce, were extensively interviewed. The aim was to identify their needs and gather insights regarding Metrology Board.
The key insights of the mission were shared on December 7 during a round-table discussion at NBSM, bringing together 14 representatives from the public and private sectors. Preliminary findings and recommendations were presented, drawing on the insights gained during the interviews and meetings. The expert shared valuable examples from several European countries, highlighting key aspects on institutional organization of National Metrology Systems. The primary focus of the discussion was on the inclusion of stakeholders in a Metrology Board, the organizational structure of the NSBM, and key considerations in the development of a National Metrology System.
The initiative's goal is to support further development of a robust metrology system in Armenia, promoting metrology, ensuring product quality and safety, and facilitating trade in compliance with international standards. This effort aligns with Armenia’s commitment to implementing the CEPA Agreement with the EU, enhancing trade competitiveness, and maximizing associated benefits.
