On International Women's Day, 8 March, the TEDxMoskovyanSt conference took place in partnership with the UN Armenia, this time under the title "Striving for Equity".
The speakers of the conference presented their personal experiences, success stories, and stressed the importance of gender equality for the development of society. With the theme of the day the TEDx conference was summed up by the UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia, Shombi Sharp.
During his speech, Mr. Sharp called to join him in challenging the gender stereotypes and bias. He presented an inspiring social experiment and even conducted one himself, to show how stereotypes affect our vision and how that can be changed at early age. While sharing his personal story with the audience, he made it clear that gender stereotypes are a social fiction that disappears when we let them. And to make gender equality real, women and girls and men and boys need to work together.
“We must equally invest in the potential of both women and men in order to achieve best results,” – noted Mr. Sharp during his speech.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
