WFP Deputy Director in Armenia and USAID Regional Humanitarian Advisor visited Syunik region

Within the framework of the visit they had a meeting with the Deputy Mayor of Goris to discuss the impacts of NK conflict and COVID-10 on the community.
Within the framework of the visit to Syunik region, WFP Deputy Director in Armenia, Nanna SKAU together with the USAID Regional Humanitarian Advisor, Mr. John H. Patterson had a meeting with the Deputy Mayor of Goris, Irina Yolyan to discuss the impacts of NK conflict and COVID-19 pandemic on the community.
During the meeting, Ms. Yolyan presented the current situation related to the needs of the displaced and food-insecure people. Ms. Yolyan has also highlighted the importance of already implemented projects supported by USAID, as well as potential agricultural projects to effectively enroll displaced people in various sectors of the workforce.
Ms. Nanna SKAU and Mr. Patterson stressed the importance of community development programmes that include humanitarian and development projects to solve food security issues currently faced by the population and ensure the sustainability of projects. This will allow making positive long-term support to improve the livelihoods of people.
Mr. Patterson also visited the WFP warehouse to see food parcels for food assistance, which was a part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and Nagorno Karabakh conflict. WFP provided food assistance to support over 36,000 vulnerable individuals, thanks to the funds received from the EU, USAID, and Governments of France and Flanders.
