WFP and Caritas establish a new partnership to support vulnerable families in Armenia with food assistance

The two agencies will provide food assistance to vulnerable individuals across the day care center “Little Prince” in Tashir, Gavar and Vanadzor cities, as well as Center for Children and Youth with Multiple Disabilities “Emili Aregak”.

Over 360 beneficiaries in Gyumri and Vanadzor benefitted from additional food items from WFP within Caritas food baskets, which Caritas provides to the vulnerable families in Armenia on regular basis to support their food security and livelihood. Thanks to such partnerships it becomes possible to ensure a more comprehensive response to COVID-19. WFP is encouraged by the valuable partnership developed with Armenian Caritas which will enable to provide food assistance as an essential life-saving and life-changing support to vulnerable families during these unprecedented times.

With the development of the pandemic from a health to a socio-economic crisis, it is expected that the number of people who would be pushed into food insecurity by COVID-19 will increase Therefore, food assistance in different provinces of Armenia is a vital measures, which also helps the government of Armenia to support the social protection of the most vulnerable.

Throughout the crisis, in Armenia and around the world, WFP continues supporting the food security of individuals with the mobilization of additional resources, relying on its expertise in logistics and supply chain, well as identifying new partners and encouraging them to 'come together' in joining forces amidst the pandemic.
