Enhancing National Health Priorities to Create Lasting Change in Armenia
This issue of the newsletter captures some of the major highlights from the WHO Country Office in Armenia from January to March 2025. These activities reflect joint efforts and collaboration of national and international organizations, UN agencies, civil society, academia, and all development partners committed to advancing Armenia’s national health priorities and creating significant change in people’s lives.
Alongside these key highlights, we are pleased to share the following two updates:
First, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other relevant ministries, WHO is developing the Country Cooperation Strategy 2026 – 2030 (CCS). The CCS will be aligned with the broader programme of the Government of Armenia and the priorities of the Ministry of Health, WHO’s Global Health Strategy and European Programme of Work (EPW2) and, the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2026-2030. A consultative CCS development process will ensure WHO’s support in Armenia remains relevant to respond to the health needs of tomorrow.
Second, after more than three years of intensive negotiations, Member States have taken a decisive step to make the world safer from pandemics, by forging a draft Pandemic Agreement. The agreement aims to strengthen global collaboration on prevention, preparedness and response to future pandemic threats. The Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) established by the Member States had many formal and informal negotiations on the draft agreement. This agreement will be presented to the Seventy-eighth World Health Assembly in May 2025 for consideration.
