Yerevan, Armenia, October 7 - 11, 2024 – As part of the EU-funded “Support to Quality Infrastructure in Armenia” project capacity building component, UNIDO organized a five-day training in Yerevan on calibration of resistors and digital multimeters (DMMs) by using the modern metrological equipment in the newly equipped electrical laboratory supported by the project.
The training was attended by technical experts from the National Body for Standards and Metrology (NBSM), and is a part of a comprehensive road map, aiming to develop NBSM's electrical laboratory capacity to provide high-quality, internationally recognized calibration services in accordance with relevant international standards and guidelines. The training covered key concepts outlined in the international standards and EURAMET Guidelines on the Calibration of Digital Multimeters, with separate sessions focusing on methods for the calibration of DMMs and multifunction calibrators, measurement setup, uncertainty calculation for DMM calibration, and the calibration of high-value resistors.
The hands-on component of the training allowed NBSM staff to work closely on drafting relevant technical procedures e.g. calibration procedures, instructions, uncertainty calculations for both digital multimeters and multifunction calibrators. Integration of the new procedures into the organization’s quality system was also discussed for meeting international standards and requirements.
The “Support to Quality Infrastructure in Armenia” project is funded by the EU and implemented by UNIDO. Its goal is to strengthen the capacity of the National Institute of Standards and Metrology (NBSM) to provide sustainable, internationally recognized metrology services. By reinforcing Armenia’s legal, institutional, and technical metrology frameworks, the project supports the country’s broader objectives of economic diversification and trade competitiveness, in line with its commitments under the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with the EU.
