EU and UNIDO Support Armenia to Develop the First National Quality Policy for Good Governance

UNIDO organized a workshop within the framework of the project “Support to Quality Infrastructure in Armenia”.
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) organized a workshop to build consensus on the vision of the National Quality Policy and the National Quality Infrastructure (NQI) Strategy for the benefit of the country to foster its sustainable development being supported by a fit-for-purpose and sustainable QI system.
The workshop provided a platform for over fifty policymakers and senior officials from line ministries, quality infrastructure institutions, and private sector stakeholders. At the workshop, participants reviewed the context of the Quality Infrastructure in Armenia at the moment and discussed the vision for the future Quality Infrastructure in Armenia and related objectives, activities, and outcomes for each of the components of the NQI system to be directed by market needs.
“The QI services are necessary for all aspects of life, be it science, innovation, security or food safety”, Mr. Karen Azaryan, Trade Officer from the EU Delegation to Armenia emphasized the importance of supporting Quality Infrastructure development for Armenia and highlighted the wide participation of various state ministries and institutions in the event.

Ms. Zhanna Zakaryan, Head of the QI Development Department of the Ministry of Economy accentuated the importance of the project funded by the EU and implemented by UNIDO and said,
“The main priority is to improve the metrology system in Armenia, by strengthening the knowledge of national stakeholders in that field and establishing 4 measurement laboratories”.

Ms. Anahit Simonyan, UNIDO Country Representative welcomed all participants and said,
“This workshop is a continuation of an important process for the development of the National Quality Policy and Quality Infrastructure Strategy started in July this year. The wider presence of the national partners from different Ministries and Agencies paves a way for a strong institutional framework and inter-sectoral dialogue”.
This workshop is within the framework of the project “Support to Quality Infrastructure in Armenia”, which is funded by the European Union (EU) and being implemented by UNIDO, aiming to develop the national metrology capacity to provide sustainable and internationally recognized services to stakeholders within the Republic of Armenia.
