Brief on disproportionate sex ratio of newborns and sex-selective abortions in Armenia
30 June 2020
In 2011 UNFPA launched a study that confirmed that there is a trend of sex-selective abortion in Armenia. In other words, some Armenian families do not allow girls to be born through abortion, preferring to have a boy.
As a result, since the early 1990s, the sex ratio of newborns in Armenia has deviated from normal, which is 102 to 106 boys for every 100 girls.
