Acting UN Resident Coordinator’s message on International Women's Day

The theme for the International Women’s Day, 8 March, 2022 is, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”. The United Nations Country Team in Armenia would like to congratulate all women and girls in Armenia on this important day. As stated by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, on this day, we celebrate the contribution of women and girls around the world for their leadership across all walks of life as well as for their ideas, innovations, and activism that are changing our world for the better. 

We would like to congratulate Armenia for taking a leadership role at the global level in relation to gender equality. Since 2020, Armenia has been one of the leaders for the Action Coalition on Technology and Innovation for Gender Equality. We look forward to supporting, throughout the month, the planned activities. 

The 2021-2025 Cooperation Framework, signed between the Government of Armenia and the United Nations Country Team recognizes that discrimination based on gender is a fundamental challenge for Armenia’s future development. It includes a standalone as well as crosscutting outcome on gender equality and equal opportunities. 

This year, Armenia is also celebrating its 30th anniversary of joining the United Nations. During these years, the partnership between Armenia and the United Nations has included joint efforts and a wide range of initiatives to increase gender equality and to empower women and girls. We look forward to continuing this important work together with the Government of Armenia and partners.
