UNIDO Organizes Internal Audit Training for the NBSM’s Torque and Pressure Calibration Laboratories to Advance Accreditation
01 September 2025
Yerevan, Armenia – August 25-29, 2025 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), within the framework of the European Union-funded “Support to Quality Infrastructure Development in Armenia” project, successfully conducted an intensive five-day practical training on internal audit in line with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements for Torque and Pressure Calibration Laboratories of the National Body for Standards and Metrology (NBSM).
The training aimed to strengthen NBSM’s technical capacity and prepare its Torque and Pressure Calibration Laboratories for international accreditation. Currently, NBSM does not provide internationally recognized calibration services in these fields, and this module represents a critical step in developing such services.
Participants received hands-on training in torque wrench and pressure gauge calibration, evaluation of measurement uncertainty, and operation of newly acquired equipment, including pressure calibrators and air pressure balances. A key component of the program was a mock internal audit under the supervision of international expert, enabling NBSM staff to design audit plans, develop ISO/IEC 17025:2017-compliant checklists, and practice identifying non-conformities. The sessions also covered drafting audit reports, preparing corrective action plans, and managing non-conformities effectively.
By the end of the training, NBSM staff gained a clear understanding of the laboratories’ readiness for accreditation, alongside practical tools to strengthen internal audit procedures and quality management systems. These efforts contribute to Armenia’s broader goal of aligning its national quality infrastructure with international standards, supporting economic diversification, competitiveness, and compliance with commitments under the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
The "Support to Quality Infrastructure in Armenia" project, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNIDO, is dedicated to strengthening NBSM’s role in providing sustainable and internationally recognized metrology services. By reinforcing Armenia’s legal, institutional, and technical frameworks for metrology, the initiative contributes to the country’s efforts in advancing economic diversification and trade competitiveness, aligning with the objective of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with the EU.
